Students are summarizing their strategies for writing linear equations in question F of Problem 2.2. This assignment is due at the start of class on Wednesday. There will be no further class time for this assignment.

Students received their graded unit test on the Stretching and Shrinking unit. Quiz Dissections are due at the start of class on Tuesday. We are starting a new unit called Comparing and Scaling, where students will explore ratio, proportion and percent.

Apollo Science

This week in Apollo Science, students will observe a variety of cells under a microscope and learn the importance of scientific drawing.  On Tuesday, students will take a quiz on the 2 basic cell types and begin a three-day long investigation (osmosis in a cell) showing them how substances move across the cell membrane.  They will learn key terms like diffusion, osmosis and active transport.  From there, students will learn about the structure and function of the cell's organelles.  As always, this week promises to be engaging and meaningful.

This week, students will learn how living things are classified. They will learn how to write scientific names, how to use dichotomous keys and what makes one species distinct from another. This week in Apollo Science, students will begin story boarding for a Public Service Announcement based on their "Hand Washing Lab" findings.  Students will conduct further background research and, later this week, meet with a representative of the Lake Champlain Cable Access Television studio to discuss how to use a camera and edit video with this purpose in mind.

1. make sure you identify 2-3 European Bands and a song or two that you and your classmates recognize.

2. Print out the authentic band logo (symbol) or lettering of their name.

3. Print anything (such as landmarks, album covers or lyrics) at home. As you have experienced, printers at school have not been working.

4. Complete the scary story graphic organizer, AND begin the story.

Remember, you have 4 classes (spread between humanities and Math) to complete the story. This means you have 1 hour for the setting and exposition, 1 hour for rising action and story development, 1 hour for climax and 1 hour to write the falling action an the ending.

Apollo Science

This week in Apollo Science, students will identify germs as an agent for causing sickness.  They will investigate how washing their hands affects the spread of germs using a germ-simulating gel.  The gel will show places on their hands that germs are likely to collect.  On Tuesday or Wednesday, the school nurses will discuss with students how they should wash their hands.  Students are expected to apply this knowledge for an upcoming project that is designed to display their scientific knowledge and to help stop the spread of germs like the H1N1 virus within the community.

The final copy of MR3 is due in class on Wednesday. Students also worked on a practice packet to prepare for the quiz on Wednesday. Questions 1, 2, 3, and all of page 100 of the practice packet are strongly recommended.

7th Grade

Students have their "Moldy Bread Lab" write up due this Thursday (11/5) at the beginning of class.  

Humanities 11-2 to 11-6

Corrections to Government test and Endres Writing need to be made for homework tonight, so that reflections can be completed. All Reflections must be finished by Wednesday. This means time in class must be used wisely or reflections will need to be finished for Homework Tuesday night. Progress reports were also handed out today so that students know exactly where they stand and what must be corrected to impact the report card due out on Friday.

Apollo Science

The 1st Qtr. ends on November 6th.  Last week, students received a progress report in science that listed their grades and whatever assignments they may owe.  Students are strongly encouraged to utilize the homework clinic if they owe work.  I will call parents of students who are in danger of receiving a low grade in science due to missing assignments.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

This week, students will write a technical lab report on the Moldy Bread lab.  The lab report will be their first major grade for the 2nd Qtr.  Tuesday and Wednesday, students will use their scientific process skills to conduct a couple of investigations.  During the investigations, students will review the major parts of the scientific method and prepare them for the Hand Washing lab.

10.26 Maths

8th Grade
Students were returned their graded quizzes on reflection, rotation and translation. Students wishing to take a do-over must meet with Mr. C. on Wednesday during recess, or make other arrangements.
We began an investigation of congruence in problem 3.1. Students are expected to arrive in class having completed problem 3.1.

7th Grade
In class, students were returned their graded quizzes on variables, tables and graphs. There will be a do-over quiz on Wednesday for students who have met with Mr. C.
We completed problem 3.1 in class. The following practice is assigned: 3ACE #1.

10/26/09 Science

Students should write a detailed procedure on how to perform a topic of their choosing. Examples may be: How to kick a soccer ball or how to make a cup of tea. Due Tuesday 10/27

Apollo Science

This week in science, students are continuing to develop their scientific process skills.  Students will collect and analyze data for their moldy bread lab.  We will learn the importance of writing a detailed procedure that includes the major steps of an investigation.  We will also learn how to organize data into data tables, and graph this data using either a bar graph or a line graph.  On Friday this week, we have a guest teacher coming in that will challenge students to plan and conduct an investigation using the inquiry skills students have developed thus far.

In class, students completed Math Reflections 2 on page 47 and worked on a practice packet on reflection, rotation and translation to prepare for the quiz tomorrow. No specific practice is assigned. Students should complete any incomplete practice problems to review the concepts of reflection, rotation and translation.

7th Grade
In class, students began to look at how equations can describe relationships between variables in Problem 3.1. No practice is assigned.

Students must complete the "3 Types of Variables" worksheet for Tuesday's class.  If they completed that sheet, then they should complete the "Pigeon Experiment" worksheet.

Everyone should be read up to page 212 and have answered all questions on the Epic Questions page. Please make sure to give me the ten vocabulary words that you are working on.

Write a paragraph answering the question: Why is a thid child illegal?

8th Grade

Be sure portfolio is complete. This means making sure that all assignments and notes are in the folder, along with two reflections. One reflection for the writing standard, and a second reflection for the government standard.

Students have a take-home lab called "Penny Observation" due at the beginning of class tomorrow. 

Also, the deadline for progress reports is 3:00 pm on Thursday 10/15.  Any missing/absent assignments need to be handed in by then.  Students who are unsure of their grade should speak with their teachers directly.
