Yearbook Photos Wanted!

If you have any photos of you and your middle school friends doing middle school things, please send them to Ms. O'Neil to be considered for inclusion in the yearbook. Send them asap to koneil@mtsd-vt.org.

1.31 Maths

7th Grade
Students are building their number sense with positive and negative numbers in Problem 1.2. Students should be sure to complete the entire problem before class on Tuesday.

8th Grade
Students are preparing for a quiz on the Pythagorean Theorem on Wednesday. Be sure to complete Math Reflections 3 and the practice packet.

1/31 Science

7th grade students received their density tests back today! They should have it signed by a parent or guardian. I strongly encourage students to meet with me to discuss making corrections on it.

8th grade-should return signed density tests! If students have not shown their tests to a parent or guardian, please ask them about it!

1.28 Maths

7th Grade
Students should complete all of Problem 1.1 before class on Monday.

8th Grade
Students should complete question 1 of Math Reflections 3 before class on Monday.

1/28 Science

7th grade-Crow's section-should write a few sentences describing to a 4th grader what happens to a gas when it is heated/cooled? Your answers should include the words "expand" and "contract." This is due on Monday January 31st at the beginning of class.

2011 Course Fair for 8th Grade

Please join us for the annual MHS course fair Feb. 3, 2011 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. 8th grade parents are invited to the library from 6:00 – 6:30 pm for parent orientation. All parents and students of grades 8-11 are encouraged to attend from 6:30 – 8:00 pm in the cafeteria. A copy of the program of studies will be available for each family.

1.27 Math

7th Grade
We are starting a new unit of study on integers and rational numbers. Today students explored some properties of positive and negative numbers in Problem 1.1. Students should make sure they have completed to the end of question C before class on Friday.

8th Grade
Students continue to explore and apply the Pythagorean Theorem in Problem 3.4. The following practice is assigned:
R2 - 3ACE #7, 15-18, 35
R3 - 3ACE #7. 15-17, 25, 35

Pizza Pizza Orders Due!

The orders for the Pizza Pizza fundraiser are due on Friday January 28.

1/27 Science`

8th grade-students should have their density assessment signed and returned to class.

7th grade-should complete the "Hot and Cold Balloon" probe for homework. This assignment is due at the beginning of class tomorrow, 1/28.

1/26 Science

8th grade students received their scored density tests back today. Students should show the assessment to their parents or guardians and have a conversation around it. Parents/guardians should sign the assessment and students should return it tomorrow, 1/27.

1/24 Science

7th grade-took the first part of the density assessment today. Part 2 will be on Wednesday, 1/26.

1.24 Maths

7th Grade
Students received their marked unit tests today and completed a test dissection. Students are bringing their tests home to be signed by a parent. SIGNED TESTS MUST BE RETURNED ON TUESDAY.

8th Grade
There was no 8th Grade math class today.

7th grade-students will be assessed on their understanding of density on Monday, 1/24. Students should use the wiki (focus questions 8,9,10,11 & 12), their notes on density and density packets 20, 23 and 24 to help them prepare for the test.

1/18 Science

8th grade-Students understanding of density will be assessed tomorrow (Weds, 1/19.) Students can use the wiki (focus questions 8,9,10,11, & 12), their notes and density packets 20, 23 & 24 to help prepare for the exam. The assessment's scoring rubric is also on the wiki.

7th grade-Students should reflect on today's lesson by choosing either to write a reflection paragraph, draw a diagrams or review their notes.

1.18 Maths

7th Grade
On Wednesday, students will take the unit test for the Comparing & Scaling unit. To prepare, students should complete question 2 on page 66 and review their notes and assessments from the unit.

8th Grade
The Pythagoras Check-Up 1 quiz was returned to students today. Students began to derive the pythagorean theorem by exploring the relationship between the areas of the squares formed on the legs of a right triangle to the square formed by the hypotenuse. No practice is assigned.

1.14 Maths

7th Grade
We have completed Investigation 4 of the Comparing and Scaling unit. Students will take a test on ratios, unit rates and proportions next week. Question #24 on page 59 is assigned over the long weekend.

8th Grade
Students took a quiz on the coordinate grid, squares and square roots.

1/14 Science

8th grade will be tested on Wednesday, 1/19.
7th grade will be tested either Thursday (1/20) or Monday of the following week.

Students can use their class notes, worksheets and wiki to help study for the test.

1/13 Science

Students will be assessed on their understanding of the concept of density next week in science class. The assessment is a performance-based lab. Students should review their notes, worksheets and wiki to help prepare them for it.

7th grade-should write a conclusion paragraph around the sink or swim activity we did in class today. This is due tomorrow, Friday 1/14.

1.13 Maths

7th Grade
Students continue to practice using proportions to solve problems in Problem 4.3. Be sure to complete to the end of question 4.3.C before Friday's class.

8th Grade
Students will take a quiz on coordinates, squares and square roots on Friday. The following practice is assigned:
